If you are wondering whether we are doing it harder than those that went before us, the simple answer is yes, in many ways. Never have we lived in a time where we are so connected to the outside world, yet so disconnected within ourselves.
Stress is a part of every day life in the current world – stress at work, stress at home, stress in relationships. We are immersed in a culture of deadlines, expectations, mortgage repayments, and goals, which seem out-of-reach at times. All this plays a toll on the body, breaking us down instead of building us up. Although we may encounter a similar stress to another, how that stress manifests physically for you personally may be very different. In one it could present as digestive dysfunction (Crohn’s disease, IBS, Celiac disease etc.), in another – behavioural problems (ADD, ADHD, anger, dementia). Where and how it manifests in a particular individual depends on various aspects of one’s physiology, genetics, lifestyle, and diet, but ultimately it is their environment – whether that be internal or external.
Most of the conditions you see commonly today i.e. IBS, cancer, type 2 diabetes, are not over-night conditions. They didn’t just appear one day when you woke up, or when you went to bed. They are in most cases a result of accumulated stress over time – the perfect storm.
We live in an age of convenience. Unfortunately however, this convenience has come at a cost. Whatever the ailment, disease, or condition you may be dealing with, it is IMPERATIVE that you start listening to your body. In doing so you will gain a deeper understanding and insight into your own system, and be able to handle it more efficiently.
No one wants to be in pain or discomfort, and it is only too common for us to seek methods of instant relief as soon as humanly possible. Quick fixes i.e. drugs (painkillers, anti-inflammatories etc.) are really effective at this, initially. However, is it the symptom that is the true problem, or is the symptom a message from the body telling us that there is imbalance going on, and that there needs to be a change? Don’t shoot the messenger. In my experience it is ALWAYS the latter!
My goal is to make certain that you are ticking all the boxes to ensure you are working with the body, not against it. Making sure the fundamentals are in place, and helping you learn the unique language of your body. When people heal themselves it has a very different impact on their life.
